Breeze Victorious on Home Soil to Extend Championship Lead
Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup Star Carl Breeze wins at Snetterton Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup star Carl Breeze put in fantastic performance racing at his home circuit Snetterton last weekend to increase his championship lead from 13 points to 31. Again dominating official testing on the Friday Breeze headed into Saturday`s qualifying session full of confidence that he could secure the coveted Pole Position. He didn`t disappoint and after doing only three laps Breeze put his TCR run machine on the top spot and in doing so scored the bonus point meaning that he went into the two races that day 14 points clear of rival Tom Sharp. Making a great start to the opening encounter, the 2010 Vice-Champion saw off an early challenge from arch-rival Nathan Freke into the hairpin and then proceeded to control the race to win by 1.5 seconds – his third victory of the campaign. In race two, round 16, Breeze wasn’t able to get away from the line as cleanly as he wanted to and lost out to Freke on the run to the first corner, Riches. He did manage to maintain second though, despite being harried by the chasing pack. Settling in to second place, the TCR man piled on the pressure to Freke over the first half of the race before opting to look after his tyres for the remainder of the 12-lapper and accept another podium result to boost his series lead. Sunday`s race was the reverse grid and Breeze was drawn out in fifth place with plenty of work to do. An incident at the start between the front row drivers saw Breeze delayed and in avoidance had to go over a large kerb off the circuit. This caused slight damage to his car`s handling but he battled through to end the race in fourth place only 0.8 seconds shy of the podium placings It capped off a very impressive weekend for the King`s Lynn-based ace in which he increased his 2011 tally of podiums to 12 and his number of wins for the season to three. “It was great to win on the new 300 layout at my home race; I have won there eight times now in the last three years so it has been very good to me. With the new layout it meant that we didn`t have home advantage as such, but I loved the track and adapted well to it. To extend our championship lead was what we planned for prior to the weekend and I am now looking really forward to the next races” said a delighted Breeze. Breeze now heads to the next three rounds at Knockhill in Scotland three weeks from now full of confidence that he can maintain his gap. Team principal Lee Brookes commented: “Ginetta-wise we’ve pulled plenty of points this weekend and extended our lead overall so we’re very pleased with that. Yes, you always want to win every race – that’s why we go racing – but Carl did a great job all weekend and to have a win, another podium and a fourth place is fantastic.” Carl would like to thank the following sponsors for their valued support: Bluechip.co.uk, Itheon.com, McDonalds Lynn, Cowleyroadgarage.co.uk, holbonphotography.com, McDonalds Norwich, DTAUK.co.uk, All Signs Kings Lynn, TCR, , Mr.Snippers, Lynnnews, Forma Exercise & Fitness & Imagine Health & Spa.
